Offimo - Mindful pause app for screen time control

How the pause works, and going in anyway

What happens between tapping an icon and the app opening, why the pause is short, and what it means that you can still go in.

The pause is the whole product. Here is what it does and does not do.

What happens when you tap

You tap a protected app. Instead of opening right away, Offimo holds it for a few seconds. On screen you see the pause, not the feed. When it ends, you decide: go in, or put the phone down.

That is all. No lecture, no guilt. The point is to break the automatic gesture, so that opening the app becomes a decision instead of a reflex.

Why it is short

A few seconds is enough for the impulse to pass. Long pauses feel like a wall, and walls get torn down: people uninstall the app instead of changing the habit. You choose the length when you set up an app, and you can change it later.

Yes, you can still go in

In normal mode, Offimo does not block anything permanently. After the pause you can open the app. Some days you will, and that is fine. What changes is that you chose it.

Research on this mechanism, run on a different app, found that people closed the app instead of opening it about a third of the time once a short pause appeared, and that attempts to open dropped over the following weeks. Our sources page has the studies.

When the pause is not enough

For the days when you already know you do not want to negotiate, there is Commitment Mode. While it is on, there is no quick tap around the barrier until the window you chose is over.

If the pause did not appear

Check this article. Nine times out of ten it is the permission or the app list.
